1. Residency and Visas
Most residents hold an employment visa, a business or investor visa or a long-term Golden Visa. Your employer, free zone or our PRO services team can guide you through the process, including medical tests and Emirates ID.
2. Choosing Where to Live
Consider your commute, budget, lifestyle and schools. Families often favour Dubai Hills Estate, Arabian Ranches or The Springs, while professionals may prefer Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina or Business Bay.
3. Renting Before You Buy
Many newcomers rent first. Tenancy contracts are usually annual and must be registered through Ejari. Rent is often paid in one to four cheques, and a refundable security deposit applies.
4. Schools
Dubai offers a wide range of international schools. Places at popular schools can be limited, so apply early and consider proximity when choosing your home.
5. Healthcare
Health insurance is mandatory for residents in Dubai and is usually provided by employers. The city has excellent private and public hospitals and clinics.
6. Banking and Utilities
Once you have your Emirates ID, you can open a bank account and set up DEWA (electricity and water), internet and other services.
7. Getting Around
Many residents drive, and some foreign licences can be converted to a UAE licence. The Metro, Tram, buses and taxis also offer convenient alternatives.
